Stephon Marbury: 'It was the Chinese people who helped revitalize me and pick me back up'

Stephon Marbury: When I went there, it was during a time when I was depressed, down—mentally ill. I was sick from losing family members, from everything I went through with basketball, and from losing my Starbury brand. But during that time, it was the Chinese people who helped revitalize me and pick me back up. You know what I’m saying? It wasn’t like it was a group of different people from different places. If I were in New York, it would have been a melting pot. But I was with mainly Chinese people. To have that experience and learn something completely different, be open to it, and still keep who I am—my identity, my faith, my spirit, my sense of self—that was magic, man. I can’t really express or explain it; it’s just something that only God can do.Source: YouTube More on this storyline Smith went on to question who Durant thinks is worthy of talking about him, noting that the Texas product has gotten into spats with a variety of pundits, as well as current and former NBA players, all of whom he has seemingly dismissed as unqualified to do so. He then noted that while the 36-year-old might publicly state that he doesn’t value Smith’s opinion, that hasn’t stopped him from being cast in multiple projects for Durant’s media venture. “I’ve always had profound respect for him,” Smith said. “I’m the same guy, Kevin Durant, that you asked to show up on your show, The Boardroom. I’m the same guy that you executive produced a documentary on Stephon Marbury and featured me in it. I’m that same guy that you said you don’t want anybody to listen to, yet you had me on stuff you executive produced for people to listen to. Now, that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.” -via Awful Announcing / November 4, 2024 Stephon Marbury: “I’m in a position now, more so ever, to buy an NBA team with people that I work with. Not me particularly by myself, but with a group. That’s how you do it. You do it with a group. Nobody is a sole owner. It’s rare you see somebody even people who are really, like, sole owners—they be like 60%, 50%, 55%, and everybody else is a minority owner.” -via YouTube / October 4, 2024 Stephon Marbury: “My friend was like, ‘What you think about China?’ I was like, ‘China? That’s far.’ He was like, ‘They got 300 million people that play basketball there.’ I was like, ‘What?’ He was like, ‘You probably could sell your shoes there.’ So that triggered my brain. It took me like a month, and I was like, ‘All right, I’m going to go try.’ I spoke to my family, spoke to my mom, and she said, ‘China? That’s far, but God is everywhere, so you good. You covered. You ain’t got nothing to worry about.’ So I was like, ‘All right.’ I bounced. I get there, 5,000 people at the airport, and I ain’t never left after that.” -via YouTube / October 3, 2024
