As Roma prepare for their crucial Coppa Italia quarter-final clash against AC Milan, manager Claudio Ranieri addressed the media, discussing the upcoming match, recent transfers, and the club’s future. The seasoned coach exuded confidence while acknowledging the challenges ahead.
Regarding the match against Milan, Ranieri stated, “Milan has changed significantly since our 1-1 draw in the league, and even more so after this transfer window. I expect a difficult game, but we are ready to face a great team. Milan can explode now, they can play attacking football and have quality players.”
Ranieri praised Roma’s recent transfer activities, giving credit to sporting director Ghisolfi: “I give our transfer window a good grade. We couldn’t move on certain deals due to Financial Fair Play, but I must compliment Ghisolfi because he found good players that I approved, and I’m convinced they will quickly adapt to our league.”
Addressing some criticism from fans about Ghisolfi’s work, Ranieri defended the club’s approach: “If we can’t spend money because there are precise rules? Should we spend money and then stay out of Europe because we went overboard? We had situations to respect, and we did. It wasn’t easy in this kind of market to find substitutes for champions, I am satisfied.”
The coach also commented on the future of key players Paulo Dybala and Leandro Paredes: “I never had any doubts that they would stay.”
When asked about Roma’s future manager, Ranieri remained diplomatic: “I read about Ancelotti today. But every day something new comes out, and that’s right. We are focused on our work. The new course is announced. We have signed players who can work well for any coach. The name? We will wait until the end of the season and we will do it. All the rumors that come out don’t come from us, but we will try to get the coach that suits us.”
Lastly, Ranieri expressed optimism about Roma’s new stadium project in Pietralata: “Now I’m starting to believe in it too, it’s a very realistic project.”
