For years, NBA fans have debated about Jayson Tatum.

No one can deny that he’s one of the best players in the league, yet he doesn’t seem to get enough credit.

Some blame Boston Celtics fans for overhyping him, while others argue that his numbers don’t impact winning because of his stacked teams.

Others, like Paul Pierce, argue that it has to do with his personality.

In the latest edition of Kevin Garnett’s podcast, the Celtics legend claimed that Tatum was arguably the best American player in the world right now, yet he didn’t get his flowers because he wasn’t ‘flamboyant’ (via NBA Central).

There might be some truth to that.

Tatum isn’t outspoken; he rarely talks trash, and when he does, fans mock him.

Granted, that might also have to do with the fact that non-Celtics fans usually despise the Celtics, but that’s still not fair.

Tatum has proven that the narrative about him not being clutch or not delivering in the playoffs isn’t true anymore.

He also had virtually the same numbers as Jaylen Brown in the NBA Finals when Brown was chosen as the Finals MVP.

This sounds utterly similar to what happened when Tim Duncan was a perennial MVP candidate.

His critics claimed that his game was boring, and it seemed like his impact on both ends of the court often went overlooked.

Anthony Edwards might want to have a word about Pierce’s statement, but even if Tatum is the best or second-best, Pierce might have a valid point here.
