Are the Brooklyn Nets on the verge of parting ways with Ben Simmons?

It sure seems that way based on a new report from Evan Sidery.

On Tuesday morning, Sidery wrote:

“Ben Simmons is a player teams will be monitoring as a buyout candidate from the Nets before the trade deadline.”

Simmon “holds no trade value” for the Nets with his $40.4 million expiring contract.

With that being said, there is “intrigue” for a potential buyout for Simmons and the chance for him to join another team on a veteran’s minimum contract.

It’s been another season of diminished output for Simmons.

So far, he has averaged 6.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists.

For the last few seasons, fans have been waiting to see more from Simmons, but he has consistently come up short and hasn’t delivered on the promise he showed during his first few seasons in the NBA.

Because the Nets are contemplating big changes, it’s not too surprising to hear they may be ready to say goodbye to Simmons.

But it is somewhat shocking to hear they are contemplating a buyout, a sign of just how much his trade value has diminished over the years.

There is still a legion of loyal Simmons fans who think the player could rebound and help out a bunch of different teams.

However, his time with the Nets may have come to an end, and now he could be stepping forward into a very uncertain future.

Things didn’t work out with the Philadelphia 76ers, and they aren’t working out with the Brooklyn Nets, but could Simmons have better luck with a new team?
