Magic Johnson To Receive Presidential Medal of Freedom
Magic Johnson is set to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom during a ceremony on Saturday. Johnson will be one of 19 people to receive the honor. The recipients have made "exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public or private endeavors," according to the White House. Following his retirement, Johnson has been an advocate for HIV/AIDS prevention and has done philanthropic work to support underserved communities through the Magic Johnson Foundation. Johnson is also in ownership groups for the Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Sparks, Los Angeles FC in MLS and the NWSL's Washington Spirit.
