The Los Angeles Lakers are facing a crisis right now.

LeBron James pulled his groin in the loss to the Boston Celtics.

Usually, that wouldn’t be much of an issue.

Then again, we’re talking about an aging player in his 22nd season in the league.

When asked about that, the four-time NBA champion downplayed it and claimed that, while they will take everything day-to-day, he’s not very concerned about it right now (via Spectrum SportsNet):

“Not much concern…Obviously we’ll go day-to-day and look at it each day and see if it gets better and then take the proper measures and see what we need to do moving forward,” he said.

Nevertheless, ESPN insider Dave McMenamin reported that it would be a matter of weeks, not days, before his groin healed.

The Lakers have close to 20 games left in the regular season, and having their second-best player on the shelf for weeks could be a bit of a catastrophe.

As good as they’ve been lately, the playoff race is quite tight in the Western Conference, and a bad stretch could take them from a top seed to back into the Play-In Tournament.

Luka Doncic has also struggled with injuries this season, but it’s time he steps up and puts the team on his shoulders.

He’s proven that he’s more than capable of doing so, and his trade from the Dallas Mavericks should give him more than enough motivation to be at his best and prove the doubters wrong.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Lakers get by without LeBron.

Given his age, they should err on the side of caution and allow him to get back to full strength without rushing him back to the court, even if he heals faster than the average human being.
