The Los Angeles Lakers failed to get past the Los Angeles Clippers.
If that sounds like a familiar phrase, that’s because it is.
The Clippers have had the Lakers’ number for most of the LeBron James era, and it doesn’t seem that will change any time soon.
That’s because, even with Paul George’s departure, they still have a better team than the Lakers.
With that in mind, LeBron James chose to throw a subtle jab at Rob Pelinka about the roster.
Following the loss to the Clippers, James claimed that the Lakers had to play a perfect game of basketball to win.
Otherwise, their roster was constructed so poorly that they didn’t stand a chance to win (via Dave McMenamin).
After the Lakers’ loss to the Clippers, JJ Redick admitted: “We don’t have a huge margin for error. … Nor can we create that margin organically.”
LeBron James’ response? “That’s the way our team is constructed. … We have to play close to perfect basketball [to win].” pic.twitter.com/JY3za08U0j

James implied that they don’t have a strong team or are not talented enough to do the job well.
The trade deadline is a couple of weeks away, and the Lakers will be hard-pressed to improve the roster.
Their first-round pick will be highly coveted around the league.
However, it’s difficult to imagine a player who can transform them into a championship contender overnight.
James continues to put up big numbers, but there have also been plenty of empty games for the veteran.
Overall, J.J. Redick still deserves plenty of credit for keeping this team in playoff contention.
Unfortunately, it still seems like this team is in for a tough time in the future, as they don’t have much young talent to rebuild once James is gone.
