Lazio’s search for midfield reinforcements has led them to Empoli’s young talent Jacopo Fazzini, but club president Claudio Lotito is proceeding with caution due to financial constraints. The 21-year-old Italian midfielder has caught the eye of several Serie A clubs, including Fiorentina, with Empoli president Fabrizio Corsi reportedly valuing the player at €14-15 million.
Former Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri had identified Fazzini as a target over a year ago, appreciating the youngster’s potential. However, Corriere dello Sport report that the current asking price presents a significant hurdle for the Roman club. Lotito has conducted preliminary inquiries, but the conditions for a transfer are not straightforward.
The Biancocelesti find themselves in a challenging position, with injuries and departures leaving their midfield options thin. Matias Vecino is expected to be side-lined for ten weeks, while Danilo Cataldi was sold to direct Champions League rivals Fiorentina at the end of August without being replaced. Additionally, Gaetano Castrovilli has struggled to find his place in the team and may require more time to adapt.
Lazio’s transfer strategy is further complicated by registration limits imposed by regulations. The club can only bring in players born in 2003 or later unless they free up a slot in their over-22 squad. This situation has made the pursuit of experienced reinforcements particularly challenging.
The club are also monitoring other options, including Michael Folorunsho, currently on the fringes at Napoli. Folorunsho, who came through Lazio’s youth academy, would be eligible for registration without requiring any squad cuts. However, a previous attempt to secure him on loan at the end of August fell through due to disagreements over the terms with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
