In a surprising turn of events, Lazio has omitted Luca Pellegrini from their Serie A squad list following the closure of the January transfer window. The 25-year-old full-back, who had been enjoying a solid season as a backup to Nuno Tavares, now finds himself in an unexpected predicament.
Calciomercaro detail how Pellegrini had made 14 appearances in Serie A this season, including 5 starts, and featured 7 times in European competitions. However, his playing time had diminished in recent weeks, with rumours of discontent between the player and the club surfacing.
The exclusion comes as a shock, especially considering Pellegrini had been linked with moves to Como and Udinese during the transfer window, though no deal materialized. It’s worth noting that Pellegrini is on loan from Juventus with an obligation for Lazio to purchase.
Enzo Raiola, Pellegrini’s agent, was quick to respond to the situation:
“I categorically rule out that the reason was dictated by disciplinary measures. Luca has always been an exemplary professional and available to the team. His exclusion from the Cagliari trip was due to a physical problem encountered a few days before the call-up. We will ask the club for clarification in the appropriate places.”
Meanwhile, Elseid Hysaj, initially left out but reintegrated in January, and Toma Basic, who replaced the Monza-bound Gaetano Castrovilli, have both been included in the squad list.
