The Los Angeles Lakers got their big man on Wednesday night, trading for Mark Williams of the Charlotte Hornets.

Most Lakers fans were very happy with the selection of Williams and think he could greatly fill out the team’s frontcourt.

But according to Erik Slater, Williams wasn’t the only star the Lakers had an eye on.

He said that the team had an interest in Nic Claxton of the Brooklyn Nets.

In the end, they had to pay a decent amount to get Williams, but they received a star who is younger than the outgoing Dalton Knecht, meaning he could be a long-term presence with the team.

Claxton has been in plenty of trade rumors since the start of the season.

That’s because he has been averaging 9.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game and has been a vital part of the Nets.

Plus, Brooklyn has made no secret of the fact that they could be sellers before this year’s trade deadline.

They are willing to hear offers on just about everyone on their roster.

Claxton could have been a good and proven fit for the Lakers, but Williams looks like a smart choice too.

He is producing 15.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game and is just 23 years old.

With that being said, there are worries because of the numerous injuries he’s encountered since joining the league three years ago.

But the Lakers surely investigated those injuries and obviously aren’t concerned with them.

Just because he didn’t go to LA doesn’t mean Claxton won’t move before Thursday’s deadline.

The Nets could be very busy, and Claxton could be one of several stars leaving Brooklyn.
