Juventus Place Watchful Eye on Milan Center-Back to Address Defensive Shortcomings

Juventus have reportedly set their sights on Milan center-back Fikayo Tomori to address a defensive crisis. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Thiago Motta’s men have switched their attention to the English defender after their pursuit of Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo fell flat.

Araujo is on the verge of penning a new long-term contract at Camp Nou. He was the Turin giants’ primary target to replace long-term absentees Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal. However, the Uruguayan is no longer an option at Juventus as he seems ready to pledge his loyalty to Barcelona.

Therefore, Tomori has emerged as a potential target. Juventus would reportedly offer Milan a tangible proposal in the coming weeks. They could try to sign the former Chelsea star on loan with an option to buy, using the same formula that took Pierre Kalulu to the Allianz Stadium in the summer.

Yet, Milan would unlikely sanction such a deal. The Rossoneri would probably insist on a mandatory buyout clause. Furthermore, they won’t let Tomori go for less than €25 million. Meanwhile, the player recently reiterated his desire to stay at the San Siro after Sergio Conceicao’s appointment as the new chief of staff.

Tomori wasn’t Paulo Fonseca’s first option at the back. But Conceicao’s arrival has turned his fortunes around. Aware of the situation, Juventus are keeping other avenues open. One could see Kevin Danso swap Lens for Serie A, though they’ve not made any official approach yet.

Money may come from Andrea Cambiasso’s switch to Manchester City as Pep Guardiola aims to lure the Italian star to the Etihad Stadium this month.
