The Atlanta Hawks seem to be in that spot that no team wants to be in, not good enough to be a legitimate playoff team but too good to get a top draft pick and improve their roster significantly.

They have a 14-14 record, and the optimism that came with a recent six-game winning streak is almost gone now that they have lost three of their past four.

Though guard Trae Young may not be on the trade market anymore, the Hawks reportedly are trying to move another key player.

“The Atlanta Hawks are looking to trade Clint Capela, per Jake Fischer,” NBA Central wrote on X.

Capela, a first-round pick in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets, eventually plated for a team that won 65 regular-season games and came within one victory of a trip to the 2018 NBA Finals.

This is his fifth season with Atlanta, and in 23.0 minutes per game he’s averaging 10.0 points and 9.4 rebounds.

He isn’t the shot-blocking threat he was several years ago — he’s averaging just 1.0 blocks per game this season compared to 1.5 a game last season — but he’s still a very serviceable role-playing center, and he’s just 30 years old.

The center position has gone through a renaissance throughout the NBA over the past few years, and Capela could give a true contender someone who can defend the league’s prominent big men.
