Harrison Ford is getting involved in politics this year — in a way he never imagined.

On Saturday, Nov. 2, the 82-year-old actor announced his endorsement of Kamala Harris for president, marking his first official political endorsement.

"I'm Harrison Ford, doing something I never thought I'd do," Ford began his video statement, which was shared with PEOPLE. "Telling people I've never met who I'm voting for and why I think they might do the same."

"This election, I'm casting my ballot for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz," Ford continued, speaking directly to the camera. "Do I agree with every one of their policies? Of course not. Do I think they're perfect? C'mon, for crying out loud, they're people just like you and me."

Ford then said he supports Harris and Walz for some of their beliefs — including in the rule of law, science and the idea that "when you govern, you do so for all Americans."

"Look, I'm frustrated about a lot of things in this country. I'm sure you are too," he continued, before referring to former president Donald Trump. "But the other guy? He spent four years turning us against each other while embracing dictators and tyrants around the world. That's not how we are."

"We don't need to 'make America great again.' C'mon, we are great. What we need is to work together again. What we need is a president who works for all of us again," Ford concluded the clip.

In a separate video, the Indiana Jones star spoke out more directly against Trump, stating that he believes the "other guy demands unquestioning loyalty" and that Trump "wants revenge."

"Look, I've been voting for 64 years. Never really wanted to talk about it very much. But when dozens of former members of the Trump administration are sounding alarms, saying, 'For God's sake, don't do this again,' you have to pay attention," Ford said in the video.

"The truth is this: Kamala Harris will protect your right to disagree with her about policies or ideas," he added.

Despite this being his first official endorsement of a presidential candidate, Ford has spoken publicly about who he's voting for in recent years. In 2020, he revealed in a conversation with former New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg that he was voting for Joe Biden.

In a clip posted on Bloomberg's Instagram page, the pair discussed the ongoing issue of climate change and why they believed Biden could handle the issue.

"We want to talk about the most pressing problem in America today, and that is our leadership," Ford said at the time. "We want to encourage people to support candidates who will support the environment."

"The man’s a centrist," the Star Wars alum said of Biden. "He said — he believes in a coalition, he believes in consensus. That’s the Democratic party."

Ford joins a number of other celebrities who have endorsed the vice president ahead of election day on Nov. 5, including Taylor Swift, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Aniston and Beyoncé.
