Eva Longoria Feels 'Sadness' For Americans 'Stuck In This Dystopian Country': 'I Get To Escape'
"Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria has revealed she feels "priviledged" to have left the United States of America.
Hollywood star Eva Longoria is reflecting on her decision to leave America.
For years, the actress has been shuffling between Spain and Mexico with her family after first making a name for herself in Hollywood.
In a new interview, she shared that she doesn't miss the country and is "privileged" to have the option to leave, unlike most Americans.
Eva Longoria Says Her 'Chapter' In America Is 'Done'
Speaking with Marie Claire, Longoria opened up about leaving California and Hollywood several years ago, despite it being where she had her "whole adult life."
According to the actress, she doesn't miss the allure it once held in her eyes, as she sensed that America was changing in ways she could not adapt to.
"Even before [the pandemic], it was changing," the "Devious Maids" star told the publication. "The vibe was different."
"And then Covid happened, and it pushed it over the edge," she continued. "Whether it's the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to shit on California—it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now."
After spending several years away, Longoria said she feels "privileged" to have the option to live elsewhere, though she's saddened that many others don't have the same choice.
Longoria added, "I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren't so lucky. They're going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them."
The Actress Discussed Donald Trump's Re-election
The "Desperate Housewives" star also weighed in on Donald Trump's re-election, which came as a shock to many Kamala Harris supporters.
When the billionaire mogul first defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016, Longoria felt "depressed" and began to question her convictions seriously.
"It was like, 'Does my vote really matter? Am I really making a difference?'" the actress recalled. "I was so untethered to the core of what I believe because I truly believed in my soul that the best person wins. And then that happened, and I was like, 'Oh, wait. The best person doesn't win.'"
Now, she isn't surprised that Trump won again; instead, she's shocked that he was allowed to run and will soon be sworn into such a critical role despite the criminal allegations against him.
"The shocking part is not that he won," she said about Trump's re-election. "It's that a convicted criminal who spews so much hate could hold the highest office."
Longoria also warned that if Trump "keeps his promises," the country will be a "scary place" for its citizens.
Eva Longoria Faced Backlash Over Her Comments About Donald Trump's Re-election
Longoria's comments were greeted with much criticism from a number of social media users.
A user remarked, "She can move out with the rest of those Hollywood Liberals," another commented, "Hollywood needs to realize they don't live in reality and the world doesn't revolve around them."
A third user said, "All the celebrities live in ice castles, they don't have to live with everyday situations as most Americans. They really shouldn't voice so much."
Another individual mentioned, "It's been a scary place for the last 4 yrs!!! But she doesn't live like the rest of us and is totally out of touch with reality."
One more person noted, "Ahh, just 'so scary' that people other than the 1% will actually be able to afford to feed their families and have money left over, haha."
Why Eva Longoria And Her Husband Do Not Want To Raise Their Son In Hollywood
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Longoria and her husband José Bastón decided to leave behind the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles for Spain over concern that their five-year-old son, Santiago, would be "sucked into the Hollywood cycle."
An insider who spoke to the Daily Mail said, "Eva and José are leaving Los Angeles for good and have put their home up for sale again."
They added: "They took it off the market in June but recently relisted it for $4 million less in February because they are just ready to get out. They are already shipping their belongings there, and this is not something that they will change their mind on."
The source disclosed that Longoria and Bastón "want to raise their son in a place where he will be surrounded by nature and beauty and not be sucked into the whole Hollywood cycle."
"They are moving to their home in Spain full-time and are both so excited about it. She has had everything that she wanted in Hollywood," the source added.
The Actress Wants To Age Gracefully
As Longoria approaches her milestone birthday, she is "doing everything" she can to age gracefully.
"For me, age is just a number, but I'm excited," said the actress, who turns 50 next March. "I refuse to believe my greatest success is behind me."
In preparation for her milestone birthday and the years ahead, she's embracing various health-boosting routines and treatments.
She continued, "I'm cold-plunging; I've got red lights on; I strength train with weights; I meditate; I'm journaling. I wake up with the sun; I'm doing the grounding; I have an Oura ring to track deep sleep."
"I'm taking magnesium and other supplements; I'm doing everything. Not because I don't want to age but because I do want to age," Longoria added.
