Dirk Nowitzki Nearing Deal On New Media Job

NBA fans haven’t heard a whole lot from Dallas Mavericks legend and NBA champion Dirk Nowitzki since he retired after the 2018-19 season, but in the brief glimpses fans have gotten of him, he appears to be enjoying his retirement.

According to a recent report, that retirement is now over, as Dirk is about to land a new job.

NBA insider Marc Stein shared on X that Nowitzki is close to finalizing a deal with Amazon Prime Video’s NBA coverage team next season.

Amazon will hold NBA broadcasting rights for the first time next season and NBC will return as a rightsholder for the first time in 24 years.

Nowitzki was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023 and has remained largely out of the spotlight since leaving the NBA six years ago.

The details of this partnership are still pending and the deal itself is still yet to be finalized, but it doesn’t appear like there is anything in the way of getting this deal over the finish line.

The NBA secured a billion-dollar deal with Amazon over the summer for 11 years beginning next NBA season while Disney and NBCUniversal have also recently made broadcasting deals with the NBA.

Despite the new partnerships, ABC and ESPN remain the NBA’s primary partners, though Amazon has secured the rights to broadcast NBA Cup and Conference Finals games.

Dirk’s personality has always been praised by teammates and fans for being calm and easy-going, and it will be nice to see the big fella on television next season.

We’ll see who Amazon gets to team up with Dirk on the panel.
