NBA rookie Dalton Knecht is learning a surprising lesson from LeBron James, and it’s not about basketball.

While sharing the court with the four-time MVP has its obvious perks, Knecht has discovered another side of his superstar teammate that many might not expect: his deep passion for a certain video game.

“How much he loves to play Madden. He always talks about [it],” Knecht told Dave McMenamin of ESPN, via Legion Hoops. “I didn’t really know it was that much. He watches it on the plane and stuff. He watches film just like it’s basketball. It’s crazy.”

James’ connection to football runs deeper than most realize. Before becoming an NBA legend, he showcased his talents as a wide receiver at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, catching the attention of several Division I programs.

Though basketball ultimately won out, leading to his direct jump from high school to the NBA, his love for football never faded.

The NFL-NBA comparison often sparks debate, especially when it comes to holiday dominance in American sports.

While James immerses himself in football culture and enjoys his share of Madden gaming sessions, he’s made his allegiance clear when it comes to seasonal supremacy.

James recently made sure to declare that basketball reigns supreme on Christmas Day, showing that despite his football fandom, the hardwood remains his true domain during the holiday season.
