Bradley Beal wants to hold on to his no-trade clause
They have virtually no assets to send out in trades, and the only player whose salary matches Butler’s is Beal, who has a no-trade clause and $110.7 million still owed to him. Beal, sources close to him said, has steadfastly maintained he wants to hold on to his no-trade clause, even if he ever approves a trade from Phoenix. As for the status of Butler trade talks, the agent for Suns guard Bradley Beal, Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, reiterated to The Athletic on Tuesday that nothing is brewing between the Heat and Phoenix that involves his longtime client. Bartelstein, whose son, Josh, is the Suns’ chief executive officer, said there has been no discussion about Beal waiving the no-trade clause that would, for all intents and purposes, be a necessary part of any Butler-to-Phoenix deal. The star-studded Suns (19-20), who lost to Atlanta on Tuesday night and are now tied with Golden State for 11th in the West, are known to be Butler’s preferred landing spot. “Brad’s complete focus is on helping the Suns win, and getting their season turned around,” Bartelstein, who made similar comments to ESPN for a story on Jan. 8, said by phone. “Everything else put out there is nonsense.” -via New York Times / January 16, 2025
