Bayern Munich’s move for 1.FC Köln goalkeeper Jonas Urbig could fall through

Abendzeitung reports that Bayern Munich’s pursuit of 1.FC Köln goalkeeper Jonas Urbig could be on the verge of falling through.

Köln are demanding €10m with bonuses and a sell-on clause for the goalkeeper, reports Bild and have already rejected an initial bid from Bayern for Urbig this winter.

The reason for the fee is that other top clubs are interested in signing the 21-year-old and his contract in the Domstadt is still valid until 2026. On top of this, Köln does not want to lose another talented youngster for free with Florian Witz, Tim Lemperle and Justin Diehl the most high-profile examples.

Bayern is said not to be prepared to sign Urbig at any price. This makes the move uncertain meaning it could possibly collapse. The Rekordmeister have already reached a verbal agreement with Urbig, who they see as the potential long-term successor to Manuel Neuer.

The 21-year-old started the season as Köln’s number one but has since been demoted to the bench behind Marvin Schwäbe.
