Barcelona President flying flag for signing despite internal doubts about star winger

Barcelona may be struggling to register them, but their financial situation has not stopped them pursuing star signings. Next summer is set to be no exception, as the Blaugrana are linked with a star signing in the frontline.

One of the names that has been touted for the left wing spot, alongside Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Nico Williams, is AC Milan star Rafael Leao. The Portuguese has fallen out with manager Paulo Fonseca, although they appear to have patched things up, but Marca say he could be up for sale for somewhere in excess of €75m.

Leao is a player that divides opinion in Can Barca though. Agent Jorge Mendes is a keen promoter of Leao’s abilities, and given he has a close relationship with President Joan Laporta, perhaps it is no surprise that Laporta is his biggest defender within the club. However others within the sporting department are less keen on the 25-year-old. There are doubts about his attitude, even if they appreciate he is a good player.

One of the previous arguments made for Leao is that he would give the Blaugrana a second player that could beat their man, outside of Lamine Yamal. On the other hand, Leao often likes to ‘cheat’ without the ball, which might not suit Hansi Flick’s intense pressing system.
