Federico Balzaretti, set to return to Roma as a director in January after his previous stint ended in 2019, has shared his thoughts on Paulo Dybala’s future with the club. Ghisolfi and Ranieri have been keen to bring Balzaretti back to strengthen the scouting department, where he will also take on the role of Loan Manager.
During a recent appearance on Dazn following the Monza-Juventus match, Balzaretti spoke highly of Dybala’s talents, stating, “He is the best left-footed player in Serie A. The player’s value is extraordinary and unique. Players with that quality are rare.” He emphasized Dybala’s undeniable impact on the team but added a note of uncertainty regarding his future: “The future? It needs to be understood also based on who the new coach will be.”
Balzaretti further commented, “Roma still has important objectives to achieve.” This comes amidst ongoing interest from Galatasaray, though Dybala reportedly wishes to remain in the capital and is not looking to leave Roma in January. The Argentine star is even willing to restructure his current €8 million plus €1 million bonus salary, although his agent has yet to receive any calls from Ghisolfi.
During the Open Var segment, Balzaretti also weighed in on a controversial penalty decision in a recent Roma match. “Saelemaekers puts his body in front, the penalty can be given,” he asserted. However, Dino Tommasi, a member of the National Referees Commission, expressed some reservations: “These are penalties we wouldn’t want to see. The first one is clear-cut.”
