Andy Robertson reveals what Liverpool's dressing room thinks of Jamie Carragher after club legend labelled Mohamed Salah 'selfish' over contract stand-off comments

Andy Robertson has revealed what the Liverpool dressing room think of Jamie Carragher after the club legend’s recent comments about Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian’s contract is set to expire at the end of this season and he claimed that there are no new offers to stay on the table from Liverpool chiefs.

The forward, 32, conducted a rare interview with Mail Sport and a small group of other reporters after scoring twice in the 3-2 victory at Southampton, where he said he was ‘more out than in’ and criticised the club.

It was an act that drew criticism from the likes of former Liverpool defender Carragher, who labelled the Egyptian ‘selfish’ for his comments on Monday Night Football.

Now, Liverpool defender Robertson has revealed what the Liverpool squad think of Carragher following his comments. 

In an interview with CBS Sports, Robertson said: ‘He’s [Carragher] been getting a bit of stick in the dressing room this week, that’s for sure!’

Carragher was on punditry duty with CBS Sports on Wednesday night and laughed along in the studio as Robertson revealed the news.

Earlier in the week, Carragher had said: ‘Of course there’s been discussions. Right now, there’s obviously a big difference in valuation, how Salah and his agent value themselves, in terms of length of contract, and how Liverpool do. 

‘So the reason Liverpool wouldn’t have offered a contract yet is because Mo Salah will turn it down. They’re still in talks, I’m desperate for them to meet in the middle. 

‘But I must say, I am very disappointed with Mo Salah. That interview last night… Liverpool have Real Madrid in midweek and Manchester City next weekend. That’s the story for Liverpool right now. 

‘And Mo Salah, we’re aware – certainly the local reporters near the club – that in seven years he’s stopped in the mixed zone twice. That’s absolutely fine. 

‘But he stops for the third time away at Southampton on the back of winning Liverpool the game and putting that out.

‘If he continues to put comments out or his agent continues to put cryptic tweets out, that is selfish. That’s thinking about themselves and not the football club.’

As reported by Mail Sport, Liverpool turned down a lucrative £150m bid from Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ittihad in 2023. On that occasion, the Reds were unable to compete with a jaw-dropping tax-free salary of £1.25m-a-week on offer from the club.

Addressing his contract stand-off on Sunday, Salah said: ‘We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club. I’m probably more out than in. You know I have been in the club for many years. 

‘There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future.

‘I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands.’

Fuming Liverpool supporters labelled the club’s owners as ’embarrassing’ and ‘unforgivable’ in the wake of Salah’s revelation.

Salah has started this season on fire under new manager Arne Slot, scoring 12 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions, but has thrown his future on Merseyside up into the air.

Liverpool came from behind to claim a 3-2 victory over Southampton on Sunday and extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points with Salah the hero on the south coast.
