The race for this season’s MVP is coming down to two players: Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Jokic recently had a string of great games that had people wondering if he would pull off the win over Gilgeous-Alexander, but Jason Timpf doesn’t think that will happen.

Speaking on “Hoops Tonight,” Timpf said that Gilgeous-Alexander is carrying his Oklahoma City Thunder in ways that Jokic isn’t doing with the Denver Nuggets.

He admits that Jokic may technically be a better player but this trophy is Gilgeous-Alexander’s to lose.

The Thunder are better than the Nuggets and there is no question about that.

They hold a 53-11 record and are easily the top seed in the West while the Nuggets are 41-23 with the third seed.

At the center of both teams are Gilgeous-Alexander and Jokic, who are doing the most for their squads.

It has been said that both teams would basically be play-in teams without these two and it is easy to see why people feel that way.

Jokic is averaging 28.8 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 10.5 assists per game this season while Gilgeous-Alexander is putting up 32.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.2 assists.

The race for MVP is essentially all about which player impacts his team more and it’s tough to determine who is doing that.

But the Thunder are the better team and Gilgeous-Alexander is a central reason why, which really helps his chances of being named Most Valuable Player.

Additionally, Jokic has earned the prize three times now and voters may be ready to give someone else the honor.

Even if the final vote isn’t close, this is one of the most incredible races for MVP ever because it has two players at the peak of their powers.
