Big men have dominated NBA MVP voting in recent years and have won the last six awards, even though every team is so in love with shooting threes and prioritizes perimeter play more than ever.

One analyst recently predicted that the run of big-man supremacy will come to an end this year and that one young forward will finally get over the hump and bring home an MVP.

During a recent appearance on #Greeny, analyst Jay Williams said, “Jayson Tatum is going to go ahead and win this MVP award.”

Williams, added “Because of what happened to him this summer, the way people diminished his overall greatness, even the way people tried to place it last year…First in points per game, first in 30-point games, first in games of 5+ threes, leading the Celtics in points per game, rebounds per game, and assists per game.”

Williams also pointed out all the noise surrounding his relationship with fellow star Jaylen Brown, who took home NBA Finals MVP during their championship run last season.

He mentioned how many times people pushed for the team to break up the duo and said that it would never win them a championship, but Tatum and Brown proved the doubters wrong and found a way to win it all.

If anything stops Tatum from an MVP season, it’s the fact that he plays on such a stacked team that would likely still be a top-3 team in the East even without him.

That said, if Nikola Jokic continues to put up numbers like he currently is, no one will stop him from winning his fourth MVP award.
