At one point during the first few weeks of the 2024-25 NBA regular season, the Phoenix Suns looked like they had finally figured things out, with new head coach Mike Budenhozier seemingly being the right leader on the sideline for a star-studded squad led by Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.
The Suns were considered a top-tier team in the Western Conference and a legitimate title contender, with Durant making a case to be in the NBA MVP conversation if he could continue playing at a high level for the rest of the season.
Unfortunately, things have taken a turn for the worse in Phoenix, with the team plummeting down the standings in the West, resulting in the Suns losing nine of their past 12 games and sporting a record of 12-11.
Bobby Marks of ESPN said he believes Booker might be to blame for the team failing to live up to expectations at this point in the season.
“Devin Booker is an All-NBA-type player, but Devin Booker this year is not playing like an All-NBA player here. He’s shooting 43 percent from the field, down from 49 percent from last year. I think without Kevin Durant, this team is a lottery team. They’re trending towards that way here,” Marks said, via NBA on ESPN.
