The Sacramento Kings looked poised to get back to contention entering the 2024-25 NBA season.

Now, they might be closer to blowing up the roster.

Their decision to fire head coach Mike Brown after an inconsistent start to the season would’ve been shocking for most teams, but not for the Kings.

They have a long history of making these kinds of moves, which is why one NBA analyst believes this time isn’t any different.

Kevin O’Connor took to X to call out the Kings for their flawed roster, and though he agreed that Brown made some questionable decisions, he wasn’t to blame for this team’s low ceiling.

O’Connor went on to cite a lack of rim protection, perimeter stoppers, reliable shooters and the limitations of stars Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox as the reasons for the team’s struggles.

Simply put, neither Sabonis nor Fox is a true franchise player.

This offseason, the Kings added another player with that same profile in DeMar DeRozan, who, to make things worse, was another limited shooter.

Keegan Murray also might never become the player they hoped he’d become, and the Kings simply aren’t as good as other teams in the Western Conference, regardless of who’s calling the shots.

Now, with the NBA trade deadline looming large, it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise if the Kings were to inquire about their star players’ current market value.
