Former Chelsea star Gianfranco Zola has shared his thoughts on Marcus Rashford’s potential move to AC Milan, offering insights into the Manchester United forward’s career trajectory and possible fit with the Rossoneri.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Zola expressed a mix of disappointment and cautious optimism regarding Rashford’s development and future prospects.

“Talking about Rashford is a sore point for me because, ever since he was a youngster, I’ve always considered him a strong player, one capable of making a difference,” Zola admitted. “He has disappointed me a bit because he could have given much more: he has alternated great seasons, like the one two years ago, with disappointing ones like the last. He’s been quite inconsistent.”

Regarding Rashford’s potential impact at Milan, Zola highlighted the player’s technical abilities and speed, suggesting he could be a valuable asset in Serie A. However, he emphasized that Rashford’s success would ultimately depend on his own determination and adaptability.

“He is certainly fast and technically strong. In Italy, he could have an important impact, but it depends on him,” Zola explained. “In my opinion, for years he could have been the MVP of the Premier League, and yet he never has been.”

Zola also discussed Rashford’s versatility, noting that while the player is most effective on the left wing, he could potentially fill multiple roles for Milan. “He gives his best on the left: that’s the position where he has played the most with United. On the right, they have used him less in recent years, while he has played as a center-forward a bit more often.”

Considering Milan’s current squad, Zola suggested two possible scenarios for Rashford: “Milan has Leao on the left, so Rashford could be his alternative, or he could act as a number nine. He’s technically good, tactically intelligent, and with his speed, he can attack space well. Eventually, it will depend on his willingness to adapt to a role that requires concentration and some time to understand the movements.”
