A woman struggling with her roommate is seeking advice.

The woman, 21, turned to Reddit’s popular “Am I the A------” forum on Monday, Nov. 4, to share her dilemma, noting that she and her roommate, 28, have lived together for about eight months and typically “get along really well.”

“During these 8 months my [23-year-old] boyfriend has come around the house many times,” the user wrote. “Every time he sleeps over, I make sure she didn't have any problems the night before and always ask her if we were being loud. We have never had a problem with him coming over before.”

However, things didn’t go as smoothly when her roommate recently brought a guest home.

“Today, my roommate brought over the guy she is seeing,” she continued. “He has been around a bit and I don't really mind it usually. however, they came home when i was sleeping (seasonal depression has me sleeping at 8:30pm), and I woke up to the sound of them f------.”

The woman shared that she decided to leave the apartment to give them some privacy and, while on her way out, noticed that her roommate’s bedroom door was “wide open.”

“When I got outside, I texted her this: ‘hey... sorry to say this but can you please close your door? I can hear everything,’ ” she wrote.

But her roommate was neither cooperative nor understanding.

“I don't know what i expected, but she simply replied, ‘sorry I never told you when you were too noisy with your visits.’ ”

“I immediately felt horrible and apologized,” she wrote, saying that she reiterated to her roommate that she could have “said something before" during their past conversations.

The Reddit concluded her post by sharing that she is now second-guessing her reaction to the incident.

"I should have just put on some music and not said anything, but I just didn't think it would be a big deal,” she shared. “I always thought she would also tell me if/when I make her uncomfortable.”

She also noted that while her boyfriend agreed with her decision to say something, he also said, “maybe i shouldn't have texted her while they were still having sex.”

In an edit to her original post, the user clarified that her roommate says she needs to keep the door open so that her cat can have access to the litter box.

Reddit users quickly took to the comments section to voice their support for the original poster.

"When you are in a shared house, you don't f--- with your door open. Simple courtesy,” one commenter wrote.

“I have a cat, that’s a dumb excuse for your roommate to use. [not the a------],” wrote another user. “But maybe invest in earplugs too.”

Another person said that it's not the original poster’s fault that her roommate wasn’t communicative about past situations. “You asked her. Repeatedly, and she told you you weren't too noisy. Was she lying then or now? Either way, that's not your fault,” they wrote. “Also close the door when you're having sex is basic common sense and basic courtesy. Why on earth wouldn't she?”

One user theorized that the original poster’s roommate might be upset about something else entirely and is using the cat situation to drive her out of the apartment. “I think this is ‘piss you off and get you out of here’ type behavior,” they wrote.
