Had plenty of excuses for not winning but still finished close up behind Impero, who although was giving away 5lb to Norman Fletcher, had a smoother run in than this favourite. The Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained horse was not only hampered over the third jump from the finish but also didn’t get a clear run through to the second hurdle out. Kept on well and as a result has caught the eye for many punters so it’s no surprise to see him favourite here. Black Hawk Eagle could still be on the up though, placing well behind Lump Sum at Ffos Las on seasonal debut. He’s taken well to hurdling in Britain and on that regard is still unexposed looking to progress as a six-year-old for trainer Kerry Lee. High Game Royal Returned to hurdles after going chasing at the start of last season and didn’t run well in his two runs in March. But he bounced back at Exeter on seasonal return placing 2nd of 13 behind Earth King. So much so that he was upped again by 4lb despite not getting the win last time out, so the handicapper’s taking no chances. He’s now 2lb lower than when a decent third over fences so could be on the up still. He certainly appeals more than the other rivals too which makes him an easier bet. 3.10: Norman Fletcher & Black Hawk Eagle – Combination Exacta (1pt) - Lingfield
2.45: High Game Royal 5/4 (2pts)
Exacta
Second to Bertie’s Ballet back in December off 3lb higher and was below par for two runs including in a Grade 3 at Newbury, but bounced back to form at Cheltenham on seasonal debut last month.
High Game Royal
Returned to hurdles after going chasing at the start of last season and didn’t run well in his two runs in March.
