Rio Ferdinand’s transfer advice for Trent Alexander-Arnold
Trent Alexander-Arnold has been given transfer advice by Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand amid ongoing rumours linking the Liverpool right-back with a move to Real Madrid.
Alexander-Arnold is out of contract with the Reds in June, meaning that he is currently able to discuss contract terms with Los Blancos immediately to arrange a transfer as a free agent in the summer.
Liverpool are fighting to keep their in-form star, who was the subject of criticism from fans following his part in the 2-2 draw against Man Utd at Anfield on Sunday.

Now Ferdinand, who enjoyed a long career at the top level with the Red Devils, has weighed into the debate to offer Trent some advice.
“My advice to Trent and his team would be: get that agreement done and then come out and be honest with Liverpool fans because they’ll respect you and love you more when you leave,” Ferdinand told his YouTube channel.
“If Trent came out and went: ‘Listen man, I love this club, this is my club, I’m a Scouser, I’ve done it all, I’ve lived the dream, but there’s another dream out there for me and I want to go and test myself somewhere else. But this will always be my club and I love it here.’
“The fans, I think, would go: ‘You know what, fair play.’
“But he should only do that if he’s got a done deal with Real Madrid.”

Rio was also at pains to point out that the situation is not necessarily one of Alexander-Arnold’s making.
Speaking in Trent’s voice once again, he said: “It ain’t my fault, by the way, that I’m down to a free transfer. If the club really wanted to make it impossible for me to go, they could make have done that earlier.”
Real Madrid are expected to tie down a contract for Alexander-Arnold, but they could well miss out on Alphonso Davies, who appears increasingly likely to stay with Bayern Munich as positive news on a new deal comes out of the Allianz Arena.
