The impact of injuries according to the AIC

The AIC kicked off the second day of SFS24. On stage were the president of the association, Umberto Calcagno, alongside Fabio Giuseppe Poli, the AIC’s Organizational Director, and collaborator Marco Piccinini.
“We conducted a study on Serie A, the Premier League, and La Liga, analyzing the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 seasons, which took place between the World Cup and continental competitions. Our findings show that the increasing number of matches has a significant clinical impact on players, driving up the cost of injuries and devaluing players,” said Fabio Giuseppe Poli, opening the event.

Marco Piccinini shared similar views, citing data from the individual leagues mentioned earlier: “Once players reach 42 matches in a season, there is a significant rise in physical problems. Last season, injuries increased by 30%, mainly due to the strenuous previous season.” The event concluded with a statement from President Umberto Calcagno: “Protecting the player enhances the competitiveness of the leagues. The message we want to convey is constructive. The rise in injuries is outpacing the increase in the number of matches. If player health remains merely a union issue, it means we’re getting something wrong. Ensuring the integrity of football’s most valuable asset increases the spectacle.”
