NBA referees have a difficult job because no matter what they do, they are going to upset someone.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr recently talked about the refs in the league and said he wishes they’d call traveling more.

“I don’t understand why we are not teaching our officials to call travel in this league. They do a great job. They work their tails off. They communicate well, but I see five or six travels a game that aren’t called,” Kerr said, per NBA on ESPN.

This is a common complaint from fans as well because they feel there are multiple occasions during each game that feature traveling.

Traveling, of course, is when a player takes more than two steps without dribbling the ball.

It’s an easy mistake to make, but professional players have perfected their ability to avoid traveling.

If the refs stayed on top of each offense, games and their final scores might look very different.

Of course, the refs have to monitor dozens of things during each game, and no one ever said they’d be perfect.

This is just the way the league works, and everyone, including Kerr, has to accept it.

Kerr is usually very supportive of game officials, and he knows their job is often thankless.

In his statement, he made sure to praise their hard work and state how well they generally do, but he still wishes they improved in this one, specific area.

Because he said it so gently, it is unlikely that Kerr will get fined for this statement, but the NBA has become more strict about people speaking out against game officials.

Will he be saying the same thing next year, or is there a chance that the league listens to Kerr, adjusts, and calls out more traveling?
