Erling Haaland has put to bed any notion of moving to La Liga or anywhere else after signing a new 9.5 year contract with Manchester City.
David Ornstein of The Athletic (subscription required) broke the news early on Friday morning, sending shockwaves through the football community.
Erling Haaland signs a 9.5 year deal with Man City
The reporter described the sensational new contract for the Norwegian as being one of the most lucrative deals in sporting history and the removal of any exit clauses that existed in his previous contract have been removed.
Real Madrid were going to make a blockbuster move for Haaland, and Barcelona wanted Haaland in 2025, however, this deal puts to bed any notion that the centre-forward will be playing in La Liga.
The new deal means that the hit-man will just be approaching his 35th birthday by the time it ends, so Haaland will have spent the vast majority of his career, and his peak years, at the Etihad Stadium.

Given that there are potential penalties in the offing for the club if the Premier League find them guilty of financial malpractice, it’s a hell of a coup for City to be able to tie the player down for such a long time.
Erling Haaland won’t play in La Liga until at least 2034
Clearly, money has played a part in getting him to put pen to paper, but it also shows incredible commitment from the player himself, knowing that the potential for City to be relegated is there.
Of course, with best in class legal representation, there’s no guarantee that the reigning Premier League champions will be found guilty of any charges, and that’s likely to have played into Haaland’s thinking when making such a mind-boggling decision.
