Southampton consider move for Euro 2020 semi-finalist who’s also a contender for West Ham job

Managerless Southampton have a long-standing interest in former Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand, talkSPORT understands. The Saints are scouring the overseas free agent market for a potential replacement for Russell Martin, who was sacked on Sunday. Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl, who was an assistant to Ralph Hassenhutl when he was in charge at St Mary’s, has also been discussed but his compensation package would be a barrier. Hjulmand, who stepped down as Denmark manager after Euro 2024 and guided them to the World Cup in Qatar in 2022, is on West Ham’s list of potential replacements for Julen Lopetegui. The 52-year-old is understood to be open to taking a Premier League job. Hjulmand’s senior coaching career began in 2006 as head coach at Lyngby Boldklub after working in their youth setup.
