Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini is set to make significant changes to his lineup for Sunday’s Serie A match. The most notable absence will be captain Marten De Roon, who is suspended for the fixture.
In midfield, Ederson is expected to start alongside either Mario Pasalic or Marco Brescianini. The attack will likely feature Ademola Lookman and Charles De Ketelaere providing support for Serie A top scorer Mateo Retegui.
Atalanta’s injury list includes Giorgio Scalvini, sidelined with a shoulder issue, and long-term absentee Gianluca Scamacca, who is recovering from an ACL injury. However, wing-back Matteo Ruggeri is expected to be available after overcoming an ankle problem.
Empoli, meanwhile, face their own selection dilemmas. Ola Solbakken recently underwent shoulder surgery following a training injury. The team will also be without Pietro Pellegri, Tyronne Ebuehi, Saba Sazonov, and Nicolas Haas due to various injuries. Adding to their woes, Mattia De Sciglio is suspended after receiving a red card in the previous match against Torino.
On a positive note for Empoli, Liam Henderson returns from suspension, while Jacopo Fazzini and Szymon Zurkowski have resumed full training. In the absence of Pellegri, Milan loanee Lorenzo Colombo is set to lead Empoli’s attack. Interestingly, all three of Colombo’s Serie A goals this season have come in away fixtures.
Atalanta (3-4-2-1): Carnesecchi; Kossounou, Hien, Kolasinac; Bellanova, Pasalic, Ederson, Zappacosta; De Ketelaere, Lookman; Retegui
Empoli (3-5-2): Vasquez; Goglichidze, Ismajli, Viti; Gyasi, Anjorin, Henderson, Maleh, Pezzella; Esposito, Colombo
