Paris Saint-Germain made a short-term move by loaning Xavi Simons to RB Leipzig for another season, but a more permanent decision is likely to be made next summer, potentially through a transfer sale.
In September, journalist Christian Falk reported that Manchester City and Liverpool are closely monitoring Simons’ situation. This summer, top clubs like Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Manchester United also expressed interest in the young talent.
According to Sport Bild, Leipzig are eager to sign the attacking midfielder in January. Simons, currently on loan from PSG with a contract until 2027, has shown little desire to return to the French capital.
While talks are ongoing, Leipzig’s biggest hurdle is PSG’s €80 million asking price, which is proving to be a significant obstacle for the German club.
Are Liverpool not a serious candidate for Xavi Simons?
Liverpool are thriving under Dutch manager Arne Slot, but changes are coming soon to the Reds as Mohamed Salah is one of the players whose contract expires in June 2025. As a result, there are questions over the player’s future and whether the English side will pursue a replacement.
Rumors link Liverpool to players, but one standout that isn’t a top priority is Simons. GIVE ME SPORT reported on Thursday, citing sources, that there are two other players linked with the Premier League club in attack are Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao and Simons.
While both have been monitored in the past, recent reports suggest they may not be top priorities for strengthening Liverpool’s frontline.
