Real Madrid have received confirmation of the immediate plans of Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is expected to hook up with the Bernabeu side on a free transfer in the summer.

Alexander-Arnold’s contract with the Anfield club is drawing to a close and there is no apparent breakthrough in terms of a new deal with Arne Slot’s Premier League leaders.

The right-back was not selected in the starting XI to face Tottenham in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg on Wednesday, a match Liverpool controversially lost 1-0, but he will remain with the Anfield outfit until the summer.

Real Madrid soccer legend sleeping at training ground amid €160m divorce

El Larguero journalist Bruno Alemany has confirmed that Real Madrid will not be able to sign Trent in January, with the club having been linked with a cheeky €15 million offer for the offensively minded right-back.

“Liverpool consider his role to be very important this season,” Alemany confirmed, while adding that Slot’s side will be active in the transfer market to pursue another option in that area of the park in the summer.

“They trust Conor Bradley but would like a guaranteed replacement.”

Alexander-Arnold still destined for Real Madrid

Although Alexander-Arnold will not leave Liverpool to sign for Real Madrid during January, the odds are that he will do so in the summer.

Alemany confirmed that it will be “complicated” for Trent to remain at Anfield beyond this season, with Liverpool pessimistic that a deal will be struck.

Real Madrid are desperate for cover in that area of the park, with Dani Carvajal presently missing because of a long-term injury. This has exposed a weakness in Carlo Ancelotti’s ranks, with veteran Lucas Vazquez struggling to produce performances of the same standard.

Los Blancos have proven to be similarly flimsy across their back line, with major holes in the centre of their defence exposed by Eder Militao’s long-term problem as well as David Alaba’s failure to recover from serious injury quickly.

Alexander-Arnold’s arrival at the Bernabeu would solve at least one of these issues.
