Bayer Leverkusen’s attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz will be in high demand next summer transfer window. Wirtz is shaping up to be the hottest target of the 2025 summer transfer window, with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid both eager to land the 21-year-old.
Former Bayern Munich defender Markus Babbel has weighed in on the transfer speculation surrounding Wirtz, expressing doubts that the Bavarian club will be able to afford him next summer.
Wirtz’s value has soared over the past two years, thanks to his key role with the German national team and his contributions to Leverkusen’s double-winning campaign last season.
Could PSG be a club that pushes for Florian Wirtz?
The German standout’s contract with Bayer Leverkusen runs until 2027, and he’s expected to command a fee of at least €100 million. However, Babbel thinks Bayern may not be in a financial position to afford the German international next summer. Instead, he’s suggested they wait until 2026 to make their move.
“I don’t think Bayern can bring him,” Babbel said (h/t GOAL). “I think the overall transfer fee and salary package is huge for Bayern as well. Next summer only PSG and Real Madrid can afford him.
“I could imagine a scenario where Florian Wirtz stays at Leverkusen until the 2026 World Cup and then Bayern would certainly have a chance because then we are talking about a significantly low transfer of €80-90 million.”
