Some people have felt for the last couple of years that the New Orleans Pelicans have had the potential to become a contender.

However, they haven’t come close to reaching that type of potential, and a big reason has been injuries.

Their most injury-riddled player has been forward Zion Williamson, the former No. 1 overall draft pick who seems to always be either injured or about to suffer a major injury.

Some have blamed Williamson himself for his many injuries, and former NBA guard Patrick Beverley is one of those people, as he criticized the Duke University product for not taking care of his body and said he hasn’t been as great as he can be.

“Being a professional means eating right, taking care of your body… This new generation takes 5 years to get where they need to be… [Zion Williamson] isn’t a bust, but he’s not living up to his potential,” Beverley said.

When Williamson came into the NBA as the No. 1 pick in the 2019 draft, many felt he had superstar potential and even compared him to Charles Barkley, the Hall of Fame forward who was an irresistible force in the 1980s and 1990s.

But he has played in just 190 games since, and some have blamed his weight struggles.

He has played in six of a possible 22 games so far this season, and he is currently out indefinitely due to a hamstring injury.

To be fair, the Pelicans have had multiple key players out this season due to injury, and it has been a big reason they have the worst record in the Western Conference at 4-18.

More and more people feel the team should trade Williamson and get what it can receive for him before his value drops significantly.
