Pat Riley Reacts To Huge Honor From Lakers

One of the most successful figures in the history of the NBA has been Pat Riley, who has gone from winning a title with the Los Angeles Lakers as a player alongside Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain to leading the storied franchise to five more titles as an assistant coach (one) and a head coach (four).

As a result of everything he accomplished with the Lakers, the franchise has decided to honor him with a statue outside of Crypto.com Arena, joining Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal and West.

The Lakers decided to deliver the news to Riley in the most memorable way they could imagine, as many of his former players got on a call with him, led by Johnson.

“They have decided to give you a statue …,” Johnson said, via the NBA on X. “Patrick Riley, congratulations!”
