Oleksandr Usyk will bid to become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion when he faces Daniel Dubois this weekend.

The Ukrainian sensation briefly became the first fighter to hold all the belts in boxing’s glamour division since 1999 following a split-decision win over Tyson Fury in May 2024.

In a bout for the ages, Usyk dropped Fury in the ninth round to wrestle the WBC belt from the Gyspy King to add to his WBA, WBO, and IBF titles that he claimed from Anthony Joshua.

The 38-year-old was forced to vacate the IBF gold, with Daniel Dubois claiming it before defending the title against AJ.

Instead of taking on the mandatory challenger, Usyk arranged to fight Fury again and came out on top once more.

Now, the undisputed heavyweight championship will be on offer once again when ‘The Cat’ rematches Dubois in London.

The duo first clashed in Poland in 2023, with undefeated Usyk surviving a controversial low blow to stop Triple D in round nine.

With the changing heavyweight landscape proving as fluid as ever, neither of the two men’s immediate post-fight plans appears clear.

Will there be a Usyk v Dubois trilogy fight?

A third bout would depend on the winner of their rematch, with no contractual clause agreed between the two for another instalment.

Usyk has publicly stated that he is on the verge of retirement, and only plans to fight one more time after taking on Dubois again.

That means that, should he maintain his undefeated record, he will likely look elsewhere for his last dance partner.

Fury recently decided to come back to the sport, following his shock decision to hang up his gloves earlier this year.

He took to Instagram to reveal his decision was spurred by his plans to fight Usyk in a trilogy bout to become undisputed next year.

But his promoter, Frank Warren, told talkSPORT that another of his fighters, Dubois, could upset the Gypsy King’s plans.

Warren said: “As I’ve said, we’ve got a show on the 19th of July at Wembley with Daniel Dubois and I believe Daniel will beat him.”

If Dubois, who holds the IBF title, beats Usyk to be crowned the new undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, then the belts would be off the line if Usyk and Fury were to fight.

“It would still be a good fight, Tyson vs Usyk,” Warren concluded.

If Dubois does indeed beat Usyk, a potential trilogy then looks far more likely, should the latter choose to seek revenge.
