Tuesday horse racing tips

  • BEVERLEY
    3.00: Tanaka 9/4 (1pt)
    4.30: Charging Thunder 4/5 (1pt)
  • NOTTINGHAM
    2.40: Jacquelina 11/4 (0.5pt)

Tanaka

Karl Burke has an 18% strike-rate overall at this track in the last five years with 18 winners from exactly 100 runners.

That will be 101 with this odds-on favourite ridden by Clifford Lee.

Both trainer and jockey seem to have a great ability at getting debutant two-year-olds ready.

Trainer Kevin Ryan has a 21% strike-rate with two-year-olds at this track in the last five seasons though, so both Pearl Fortune and Tanaka represent top yards with a great chance here on the face of it.

Pearl Fortune is by Blue Point, who was beaten narrowly by Mehmas on his third start but did win his first two races in his career, over 6f.

Tanaka is the first progeny of dam Cheshire Plain but being sired by Mehmas the two-year-old of course stands a great chance sprinting on debut.

Whereas, Pearl Fortune is out of Sarawati, the now 19-year-old mare who has produced six flat winners including Ventura Storm, but each runner has stepped up to at least 1m.

I think that gives Tanaka more remit to produce a great run on debut over 5f.

Charging Thunder

Odds-on for a reason although this horse hasn’t seen much support this morning and has actually drifted from 8/13 to 8/11.

Zinc White has 7lb in hand of Charging Thunder but hasn’t quite been up there at the finish in any of his last three runs.

But he came back from 678 days away from the track with a solid fifth at Goodwood in June, so he has the ability to really bounce back off a dangerous weight.

I would be worried about the ground for him though, he’s been withdrawn a couple of times before on good ground, and it’s Good To Firm here today.

There’s a little bit of rain forecast but I don’t think there’s going to be quite enough (5mm) to change the ground.

Sax Appeal has only had two races at 1m6f or further and though he placed respectably behind Mr Hampstead two weeks ago at Chelmsford, he may need more to beat Charging Thunder today too.

The James Owen-trained two miler has a wealth of experience over these longer flat distances and placed well, third of 20 runners, at Newcastle late last month.

Crucially too, he can go well on good and good to firm ground and it wouldn’t surprise me to see this odds-on favourite justify his lengthening odds.

Jacquelina

Won off 2lb higher back in June of 2024 and his since ran just a couple of times to place having stepped up to Class 2 to Class 4 company.

Drops down to as low as a Class 5 for the first time since winning last year and ought to prove she has the ability again off this dangerous mark.

She did only race four days ago but that’s seen her come down in the weights another 2lb after placing just two lengths off the winner in a Class 3 at Newmarket.
