There aren’t a lot of new thrillers to enjoy on the various streaming services in July, but there is a healthy selection of older titles on Netflix, Hulu and Paramount+.

Judging by the way some of the thrillers are climbing the streaming charts, there’s a large desire to see these stories right now.

That’s why the Watch With Us team has selected the following three underrated thrillers you should watch in July.

Only one of these films is from the past year, and it made the cut because it took a very different approach to the genre.

3 Must-Watch Thriller Movies That Are Perfect to Stream in the Summer

‘Red Eye’ (2005)

Red Eye starts off so innocuously that Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams) may have been falling hard for her seatmate, Jackson Rippner (Cillian Murphy). At least until Jackson reveals his true colors after takeoff. Suddenly, this perfect guy thrusts Lisa into a waking nightmare in the sky. And unless she agrees to help him assassinate a member of the U.S. government, then he’ll have Lisa’s father, Joe Reisert (Brian Cox), murdered before the plane lands.

Somehow, Lisa has to find a way to warn Jackson’s target and save her father’s life. But that’s going to be a challenge when Jackson has her by his side for almost the entire flight, and he always seems to be two steps ahead of her.

Red Eye is streaming on Netflix.

‘F*** Marry Kill’ (2024)

F*** Marry Kill is unusual because it’s a comedy thriller, and there aren’t a lot of movies that dare to combine those genres. Modern rom-com queen Lucy Hale plays Eva Vaughn, a woman who is ready to start looking for love after a bad breakup. It just so happens to be at a time when the city’s young women are being targeted by a serial killer.

Because Eva and her friends are true crime podcast addicts, they realize that three of her prospective lovers — Mitch (Brendan Morgan), Kyle (Jedidiah Goodacre) and Norman (Samer Salem) — share known characteristics of the killer. On a lark, Eva and her friends begin spying on the unsuspecting trio, and they soon realize that one of the guys may really be the killer that everyone is looking for.

F*** Marry Kill is streaming on Hulu.

‘Training Day’ (2001)

Denzel Washington finally won the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance as Detective Alonzo Harris in Training Day, which was perhaps the most menacing role he’s ever taken on. In the film, Alonzo is assigned to evaluate Officer Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke) as a potential recruit for his squad and to show him the mean streets of Los Angeles.

Jake is soon horrified when he realizes that Alonzo is a corrupt cop, and he’s been set up to be complicit in his crimes. This is more than just a struggle of wills for the soul of a good cop. Alonzo has made some very dangerous enemies in the underworld, and he’s more than willing to throw Jake to the wolves to save himself.

Training Day is streaming on Paramount+.
