Alexander Isak appears set to finally complete his £125m move from Newcastle to Liverpool on transfer deadline day, with the saga having been ongoing for seemingly the entire summer, with the striker opting not to play for the Magpies so far this season.
The Sweden international will join a title winning squad who have already splashed close to £300m this summer even before the deadline day signings of Isak and potentially Marc Guehi as well, which looks set to add another £160m combined on top.
The 25-year-old scored 62 goals in 109 appearances for Newcastle in three seasons at the club, including 23 goals in 34 league games last season.
The striker will join a potent attack consisting of Mo Salah, who is closing in on 200 Premier League goals, as well as Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, who cost a combined £190m earlier in the summer.
If all of those four can find their form this season, 100 Premier League goals could be very much achievable, having come 14 goals short of the mark last season without a recognised out-and-out number nine.
Isak will join Arne Slot’s side three games into the Premier League season, and three goals back in the race for the Golden Boot after Erling Haaland struck his third of the season on Sunday afternoon against Brighton.
Last season’s Golden Boot winner Mohamed Salah, who has now won the award on four occasions, bagged 29 goals in the Premier League last season, and currently has one to his name after scoring the final goal in the Reds’ 4-2 win over Bournemouth in their opening game.
