Emma Raducanu is always open to addressing tennis’ most pressing topics.

The Brit was only too happy to give her verdict on the most significant of sightings at this year’s US OpenCarlos Alcaraz’s new haircut.

Carlos Alcaraz debuted his new buzz cut at the US Open this week

Raducanu has paired up with the Spaniard in the mixed doubles meaning she could hardly escape his new look.

Gone are the brown locks in favour of a new buzz cut, something he blamed brother Alvaro for.

Alcaraz claims his brother gave him a badly-styled haircut meaning there was little option but to shave off the whole lot.

Since debuting his new look, Frances Tiafoe, Jack Draper, Fran Jones have all given their thoughts, leaving Raducanu to give her view.

“I think he owns it,” said Raducanu following her second round win over Janice Tjen.

“I think he pulls it off and if you own a haircut like that, then it can work.

“But whatever he does, it’s not going to affect what he does on the court. I’m just happy to see him having fun with whatever.”

Raducanu has grown close to Alcaraz and was seen supporting him during his run to the Wimbledon final this year.

That has sparked rumours of a romance between the pair although Raducanu was quick to pour cold water over them.

“We’re just good friends,” she told reporters when quizzed on the rumours.

What have other players said about Alcaraz’s buzz cut?

The new cut does not yet have universal approval with Tiafoe not on board with it.

It’s horrible. It’s terrible. I looked at him and I was like, I guess you’re aerodynamic,” the American said.

“Juan Carlos (Ferrero, Alcaraz’s coach) said, Yeah, he’s faster than he already was. I was like, Well, that’s a problem.

“From a guy who gets haircuts week in, week out, and prides myself on good haircuts, it’s horrendous.”

Meanwhile, Britain’s Jack Draper took an entirely different stance on it and gave Alcaraz the big thumbs up.

“I love it,” he said. “I love it when people change up their hairstyles. The media probably will slay it but I think it looks cool. I think he’s done well to mix it up there.”

However, British No.5 Fran Jones who shared a strong friendship with Alcaraz told the Spaniard just what she thinks of it.

“It’s shocking, disgraceful – and I told him that as well,” she said. “He just laughed. He’s a chilled guy.”

Alcaraz cruised into the US Open third round with a straight sets win over Italy’s Mattia Bellucci.

He will face Reilly Opelka at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Friday for a spot in the fourth round.

Elsewhere, Raducanu faces a third-round clash with No.9 seed Elena Rybakina iat Flushing Meadow on Friday.
