Newcastle striker Callum Wilson breaks his silence after being ruled out for two months following latest injury setback

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson has spoken out after suffering another injury setback that will rule him out until 2025.

Wilson had only recently returned from a four-month layoff and was expected to ease the workload on top scorer Alexander Isak.

However, Mail Sport exclusively revealed on Wednesday that he will be sidelined for two months after picking up a hamstring injury.

Wilson has struggled with his fitness for an extended period at St James’ Park, and admitted his latest blow has been hard to take.

‘Despite all the hard work I’ve put in pushing to get back to full fitness, I need to take a little step backwards unfortunately, guys,’ Wilson wrote on X.

‘Frustrating as it is for everyone out there waiting for my return & to be able to help the team, these shortcomings also upset and frustrate me more than anybody else.

‘I will, and I am doing everything in my power to rediscover the best version of myself & finally get off this emotional rollercoaster, which I’m hoping 2025 will bring.

‘Appreciate the patience, love & support from all those closest to me that know how hard I really work & how professional I always am.’

Wilson joined Newcastle for £20m from Bournemouth in September 2020, and has scored 48 goals in 112 appearances for the Magpies.

He has proven that he is a valuable asset to Eddie Howe’s side when fit, and it was hoped that he could help fix Newcastle’s goalscoring problems as they have only netted 19 times in 15 league games this season.

But he is now not expected to play again until February.

Mail Sport understands that Newcastle are still set to prioritise signing a right winger and a right-sided centre back over a striker in the January transfer window.

However, these plans could change if Isak or Anthony Gordon pick up injuries in the coming weeks.
