AC Milan’s injury crisis has deepened following the Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Alvaro Morata both sidelined for the upcoming Serie A match against Genoa. This situation has forced manager Paulo Fonseca to make some tough decisions regarding his lineup.
Loftus-Cheek has suffered a right biceps femoris lesion and will undergo further evaluation in 7-10 days. The club is hoping he might return for the match against Roma on December 29 or for the Supercoppa in Riyadh. Morata’s condition is less severe, with tests ruling out adductor muscle injuries, but the Spanish striker is still likely to be rested as a precautionary measure.
In light of these setbacks, Tammy Abraham is poised to lead the attack against Genoa. The English striker, who scored the winning goal against Red Star, will be crucial for Milan’s offensive efforts. While there’s a slim possibility of deploying a two-striker formation with young Francesco Camarda, it’s more likely that Fonseca will opt for a single striker setup.
The attack is expected to be completed by Samuel Chukwueze on the right wing and Rafael Leao on the left. There’s also a chance that Noah Okafor could recover from his lower back pain in time for the match, which would provide additional options for Fonseca.
To bolster the bench, Milan may call up some promising youngsters from their youth ranks. If Kevin Zeroli isn’t fully fit, Dutch midfielder Vos could be in line for a spot. Defenders Jimenez and Bartesaghi are also potential candidates for inclusion in the squad.
