Alejandro Garnacho

During the winter transfer window, Alejandro Garnacho of Manchester United was linked with a move, sparking plenty of transfer rumors. However, the young attacker stayed put, and there are some interesting details behind the scenes about how a potential sale would have been received.

The Daily Mail reported that Garnacho was no longer viewed as “untouchable” at Old Trafford, with top European clubs, including Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, closely monitoring his situation leading up to the winter transfer window.

While a transfer wasn’t expected anytime soon, United was said to be open to offers of around £70 million. However, that price might have been a stretch for clubs like Atlético Madrid and Juventus.

Journalist Steve Kay also revealed that Tottenham had made serious inquiries about Garnacho, with CaughtOffside noting ongoing interest from Atlético, PSG, and Juventus. United could have considered selling if the right offer had come in.

Manchester Evening News reported (h/t GIVE ME SPORT) that Manchester United would have found it challenging to frame Alejandro Garnacho’s potential departure in a positive light, given he’s one of their most promising academy graduates in recent years.

Despite this, selling the winger would have provided ‘pure profit’ and given United extra financial flexibility to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad in January.

Garnacho, after being dropped from the squad for United’s December match against Manchester City, fought his way back into the starting XI and has since become a regular under Amorim.
