Paris Saint-Germain have reached the halfway mark of their first season without Kylian Mbappé, who left last summer as a free agent to join Real Madrid.
So, how have they fared without their all-time top scorer? It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, especially in attack. They’ve had difficulties finding the net in the UEFA Champions League but managed to turn things around by scoring eight goals in their last two matches, securing a spot in the next stage.
Moreover, with the winter transfer window coming and going, the capital club have added Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to bolster their attack for the second half of the 2024-25 season.
Luis Enrique talks PSG attack without Kylian Mbappé
While speaking to reporters on Thursday, PSG manager Luis Enrique made a bold claim regarding how he sees the squad’s attack now without Mbappé, and his response might surprise some people.
“I was very brave last season when I told you that we would have a better attack and a better defense,” Enrique said (h/t Canal Supporters). “I continue to say it, the numbers confirm it. Everyone loved Kylian, but the team is responding positively, at a spectacular level. I wanted more players who score. The maturity of the team is very good.”
Vitinha recently sat down for an in-depth interview with The Times, where he talked about his adjustment to life at PSG, working with Luis Enrique, and Kylian Mbappé’s move to Real Madrid last summer.
While he recognizes that Mbappé’s departure had a noticeable impact on the team’s stats, the Portuguese midfielder is optimistic about the new opportunities within the squad.
“Kylian is one of the best, if not the best,” Vitinha said. “We knew it would be difficult, that we couldn’t replace him directly. But you can replace him with the team. That’s what we did. I think we’re collectively better, and we’ve already shown it. Sometimes the goals don’t come, but we have a lot of excellent attackers.”
