Liverpool fans are convinced they spotted Virgil van Dijk’s replacement during the Reds’ 4-1 win over Ipswich on Saturday.
Arne Slot’s side continued their charge to a second Premier League title at the weekend as they maintained their six-point gap at the top of the league to second-placed Arsenal with a comfortable home victory.
Cody Gakpo netted a brace with Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai also on the score sheet ahead of an important few days that will see Liverpool travel to both Bournemouth and Everton, as well as play a Champions League game.
After the game, captain Virgil van Dijk spoke on his future, with the Dutchman out of contract at the end of the season and still no agreement made on any new deal at Anfield.
After bringing up 300 games for Liverpool, he was asked how many more times he would feature for the Reds, and replied: ‘I have no idea… how many more games are there this season? Sixteen (in the league)… hopefully those are guaranteed and I don’t know what the future will bring.’
And, via a fan photo from the stands at Anfield during the game, fans have been left wondering whether the defender next in line for the Dutchman’s spot was sat watching on.
