When Luka Doncic came to the Los Angeles Lakers, most people predicted that he would be the new leader of the team and would take over from LeBron James.

That will most likely happen, but, right now, James is still in the driver’s seat.

He has been doing terrific work for the Lakers, especially lately.

As noted by Hoop Central, James has been on a tear during his last four games, averaging 31.3 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.

James has been shooting 58.0 percent from the field, 44.0 percent from the three-point line, and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Again and again, people keep expecting James’ output to diminish as he gets older, but, again and again, he surpasses expectations.

Now 40 years old, James is still averaging 24.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per game for the 2024-25 season.

He is the Lakers’ most important star and their unquestionable leader.

There will be a time when Doncic is in charge of the team, but that time hasn’t come yet.

Doncic is still adjusting to his new team and all the responsibilities that come with leading such a storied franchise, but there is no doubt the Lakers’ front office sees him as their future.

James has been fired up during these last four games, perhaps because of Doncic coming to LA.

Whatever the reason, he isn’t looking like a 40-year-old, and his team is benefiting from that.

The Lakers are now the fourth team in the West with a 36-21 record, and a lot of fans feel they will only get better as the season goes on.

If James keeps playing like this and Doncic finds his footing, there really might not be a ceiling for the Lakers.
